About the role

Your Opportunity

A Line Technician delivers best-in-class specialist technical support across bottling and ancillary equipment as well as delivering continuous improvement initiatives. In addition to providing support to production, the role includes carrying out effective preventative maintenance in-line with world-class standards, ensuring that:
  • Key maintenance metrics within manufacturing operations at Westthorn are achieved.
  • Manufacturing assets, equipment and engineering systems perform to the highest standards, and
  • Asset availability is maximised to enable optimal performance.

Responsibilities

With our Consumer at the heart, your key focus will be to:
  • Responsible for the execution of agreed planned/corrective maintenance tasks on their shift and take an active role in improving the way we carry out maintenance.
    • This includes logging work done so that e.g. Faults / problems / defects encountered are captured in the CMMS along with parts used and time spent.
  • Maintain the asset inspection and maintenance programme ensuring compliance with all safety statutory legislative requirements and best practices.
  • Follow relevant quality SOP’s to ensure the first-time quality of our products and that service is guaranteed when equipment is returned to production, with all work carried out to the correct engineering standards.
  • Assist the maintenance co-ordinator and maintenance leads in the prioritisation of work orders.
  • Recommend and advise on Preventive Maintenance improvements and spare parts requirements in order to achieve maximum availability of plant & equipment. Support plant optimisation initiatives.
  • Where required, liaise with and support external suppliers/contractors.
  • Suggest improvements to ensure the smooth and efficient running of our assets and actively participate in Lean Manufacturing & continuous improvement processes relevant to maintenance excellence and demonstrate commitment to site philosophy.
  • Maintain work area to 5S standards. Ensure it is maintained in a safe and effective condition. Ensure that maintenance work shops and peripheral engineering/satellite areas are maintained correctly.
  • Be responsibility and accountable through your personal commitment and behaviour.
  • Be aware of all relevant team KPIs as defined through the DMS process (e.g. losses, OEE, PM’s etc) and understand how you can contribute to improving them.
  • Identify and participate in training to assist in your own personal development and to improve productivity. This will include Compex capability with knowledge of working within hazardous areas covered by the ATEX regulations.
  • Work flexibly including overtime if required and maintain high levels of self motivation to achieve high standards of performance.
  • Actively participate in site performance improvement projects by collecting and analysing root cause data in support of continuous improvement and associated activities.
  • Respond promptly to troubleshooting and emergency breakdowns. Carry out emergency repairs, anticipate/prevent, quickly diagnose and rectify problems to plant and equipment, ensuring that production targets are achieved on time and to appropriate quality standards.
  • To make key adjustments to production equipment to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the lines
  • To support line changeovers as part of an operational team (including Production Operators), and implement any improvements which may increase process effectiveness
  • To effectively respond to Health & Safety issues reporting conformance to your line manager. Maintain behaviour in compliance with site EHS requirements.
  • Report any unsafe or environmentally unsound acts and conditions to their immediate Supervisor such that remedial action can be taken to manage the risk
  • Be proactive, constantly walk the floor, positively challenge under-performance, monitor trends and respond appropriately with an effective fix.
  • Actively participate in site safety and process improvement projects. Assist with capital projects as required.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional activities in order to engender a culture of team working.
  • Mentor other technicians in your area of expertise e.g. Understanding the area, control philosophy, breakdown support, change overs, planned maintenance, quality checks etc.
  • Maintain high levels of self motivation to achieve high standards of performance

Skills and Experience

The Skills & Experience needed to create your legacy

Education
  • Must have served a recognised apprenticeship as a minimum.
Experience
  • It is essential that you are competent in your core field (Mechanical or Electrical). However, it is desirable that you can demonstrate an aptitude in your non-core field.
  • Electrical skill bias preferred
  • Same or comparable position in the spirit industry or FMCG
Functional Skills
  • Demonstrable experience working safely in a manufacturing / processing environment within a maintenance department or comparable technical services team.
  • Working in a World Class environment delivering proven process improvements.
  • Knowledge of liquid handling / process equipment and machinery.
  • Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
Electrical Skills
  • Siemens PLC’s/Allen-Bradley PLC’s, control net and device net or profibus and profinet. Able to interface with PLC using programming software and make program changes
  • Capable of working to a formal electrical change control process.
  • PLC fault finding/maintenance and I/O fault finding.
  • Experience/knowledge of line control/regulation. Understands the concept of line philosophy.
  • Experienced in electronic VSD’s and Servo drive and control systems.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of general 3ph motor control circuits and fault diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of electrical sensors and their applications.
  • Experience of instrumentation and PID loops.
  • Competent in general electrical maintenance.
  • Experience of ink jet coding and in-line inspection such as Mapex, checkmat or Heuft etc.
Mechanical
  • Has a depth of knowledge maintaining rotating and cyclical packing machines.
  • Sound mechanical fitting techniques and skills.
  • Excellent understanding of pneumatic circuits, applications, technical drawings and fault-finding.
  • Working with and diagnosing faults with Mechanical Drive systems including; v-belts/pulley drives, chain drives, conveyor belts, gear boxes/gear sets, bearing damage and shaft wear.
  • Pumps/pump sets, packing and mechanical seals.
  • Understanding of control valve philosophy and valve repair.
  • Competent use of machine tools – Turning, milling and Welding.
