About the role

What does a Café Assistant do?

Our Café Assistants are at the frontline of the Brand Home. They are responsible for providing a quality food and beverage offering for our guests to enjoy, whilst delivering the exceptional customer service expected of a premium brand. The café team works closely with other areas of the Visitor Centre, with opportunities to cross-train into other areas, including the bar, shop and tour hosting. Preparing café orders, maintain food hygiene standards, cleaning, replenishing stock and serving guests are all parts of the role. You will be required to work flexible hours throughout the year, including weekends and peak periods.

With our Consumer at the heart, your key focus will be to:
  • Work seamlessly within a busy food and beverage team, at our award-winning Visitor Centre in Hampshire
  • Assist the Food & Beverage Manager with the development of our menus, the quality of our offering and deliverables put in place by the business
  • Preparing and serving food/drink for our tour guests and for small meetings, events and conferencing
  • Adhering to all guidelines and legislation on food hygiene/safety, wastage, stock rotation and routine checks, according to our Food Management Plan
  • Ensure the café is always well presented, including clearing tables, polishing utensils, cleaning surfaces and general housekeeping
  • Assist with stock ordering and replenishment, carrying out manual handling safely and efficiently
  • Use of kitchen equipment, including TurboChef, utensils and other small kitchen appliances. Use of the till, radios, cash handling, credit cards, card machines and a POS system
  • Politely and confidently handle any customer complaints, requesting help from the Duty Manager if unable to resolve
  • Comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring standards are maintained throughout the team, appropriately reporting any accidents or near misses immediately
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Duty Manager team or other Senior Managers.

Skills and Experience

The Skills & Experience needed to create your legacy
  • Experience working and consistently delivering in other demanding hospitality roles
  • A track record in maintaining exemplary standards of service, especially during peak seasons and under pressure
  • Comfortable training new staff, setting the right example and promoting a culture of soft up/cross selling to achieve café targets and maximize revenue
  • Confident leading guests in the event of an emergency and following instructions from the Duty Manager
  • Experience of cash handling and using a till
  • Fast learner, absorbing brand and product knowledge to share with our guests
Personal Qualities
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • A team player who can communicate effectively with the rest of the team to ensure break times are taken with minimum impact on guest experience, ensuring busy periods are covered
  • Detail driven and pro-active, to confidently take the lead where required, and encourage an active, not reactive level of service standard
  • This is a role with various development opportunities across the portfolio, for anyone who aspires to grow within tourist, hospitality, or spirits industries
  • We are looking for passionate individuals who will embrace acting as a brand ambassador for Bombay Sapphire and Bacardi
  • Would suit, but not exclusive to, a newly qualified hospitality student, hungry to develop a small space and put their mark on the menu.
