About the role

This is a critical, high-profile role supporting the continued growth of the Poniel maturation & blending plant. The Day Lead will assist the Maturation and Blending Manager in the overall operational success of Poniel bulk department, including:
  • Delivery of KPI’s, ensuring operational and procedural accuracy and consistency.
  • Lead and develop the operational team
  • Provide technical leadership to assure quality and consistency of the spirit handling and liquid to the highest standards
  • Create SOPs and deliver training
  • Continuous Improvement of output performance, continually reviewing and recommending improvements to production processes
  • Point of escalation for DRAMS and SAP compliance 
  • Promote and cascade the philosophy of Safety-First ensuring conformance to Company Vision and Values


Operations Leadership
  • People 
    • Manage team of 20+ primos, including objective setting, performance reviews, training and development, and attendance management
    • Manage and further increase skills flexibility across the team
    • You will be required to cover for the other shift leads on shift when required for holidays and absence

  • Safety
    • Promote and cascade the philosophy of Safety-First ensuring conformance to Company Vision and Values
    • Reinforce correct EHS behavior’s through personal example in all daily operations
    • Develop a strong understanding of best Process Safety practices, embed these safe practices in operating procedures
    • Participate in incident control Rota for Poniel site
    • Create SOPs
    • Deliver taining 
    • Carry out man manage Permits to Work.
  • Performance - KPIs
    • Meet delivery requirements of internal and external customers, on time & in full
    • Ensure operational areas achieve the weekly output targets and drive metric improvements.
    • Participate in daily direction setting and ensuring that department supports sites operational needs
  • Champion structured Continuous Improvement (CI) and best practice
    • Embrace a metrics driven culture supported by Bacardi group CI tools
    • Promote and cascade the Company Vision and Values providing leadership, guidance and support to all direct reports via Process Excellence and Continuous Improvement
    • Champion CI, optimizing Global operating standards and lean manufacturing process tools

  • Compliance
    • Adherence to all HMRC regulations, capturing all transactions accurately on the appropriate business systems
    • Ensure compliance to ISO Standards.
    • Ensure transaction flow across bulk processing systems occur real time and accurately
    • Routine stock tacking and validation of system status to the physical status
  • Quality
    • Maintain group quality standards – ensuring production of the highest quality New Make Spirit (NMS) whisky
  • Finance
    • Develop and deploy operations budget in line with approved plans
    • Local ownership for assets under area control, including new investment proposals and maintenance of existing assets
    • Preparation of capital expenditure documentation for process development
Technical Leadership
  • Accountable for the accuracy of stock management system, quality and consistency of the spirit throughout process, safe introduction of new ways of working and liquid innovation. 
  • Provide leadership through a detailed understanding of the product and production processes to a multi-disciplined team.
  • Ensures that a quality system is maintained to deliver spirit compliant with Global Quality and ISO Standards.
  • Provide technical leadership for the design, installation and maintenance of all processes and equipment across the department.
  • Close association with Bacardi group colleagues (Master Blenders/Blenders, QA lab and spirit planning team) to ensure only top-quality spirit is provided to bottling.
  • Drive global BOS programs across Spirit Supply operations teams

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in comparable position in FMCG company; spirit or beverage industry preferred
  • Experience as a multi-disciplined people manager
  • Exposure to safety-critical operations
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and knowledge, preferably PCS7 and Flowlog.
  • Ability to establish and write procedures
  • ERP systems knowledge, preferably SAP, DRAMS and EMCS
  • Continuous Improvement: Able to suggest new ideas to improve performance and deliver the plan
  • Detailed focused with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and to work on own initiative 
  • Results-oriented: Demonstrates commitment, determination, motivation, energy and accountability
  • Facilitates team working, supports and encourages others. Effective collaborator and communicator with Bacardi support groups. Good team facilitator with ability to work with other functions.
