About the role

Responsible for the supervision of our downtown distilling and bulk liquid handling operations and staff, in alignment with production plan and applicable requirements set by Federal, State, and Local Agencies and Company Policies. 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise activities at the Downtown Distillery and Bulk Processing areas in a manner that achieves production plan in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner.

  • Place orders and coordinate with suppliers for the delivery of raw materials (e.g. grains, Barrels, etc.) and consumables based on operational needs, and ensuring compliance with established specifications.  Monitor and report monthly expenditure against budget.

  • Responsible for by-product operations (e.g. stillage management).

  • Responsible for overseeing bulk alcohol shipping and receiving, including adherence to DOT and HAZMAT regulations for loading and unloading tankers as well as the supervision of all activities related to manual product batching, and all product and ingredient filtration systems in the Downtown Distillery. 

  • Accountable for definition and implementation of training and development plans for Downtown Distillery and Processing Operators.

  • Provide coaching and direction to Downtown Distillery and Processing Operators on key parameters, operating instructions, preparation of equipment for maintenance, process troubleshooting, operating plans, and safety issues.

  • Work with QC to monitor production quality, area sanitation, food safety, and uniform application of GMP requirements.

  • Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure the proper operation/supply of required utilities (e.g. boiler, compressed air, RO water system, cooling tower, etc.)

  • Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure Preventive Maintenance programs are in place and executed according to plan.

  • Be fully aware of the financial responsibilities and participate in the preparation of the annual distillery budget.

  • Develop and implement projects to improve operations performance, including but not limited to production yield, cost reduction, water and energy use efficiency, waste reduction, etc.

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable Safety, Quality and Environment regulatory considerations and Bacardi’s SQS Codes of Practice. 

  • Ensure consistency of operation, application of policies/procedures, and accountability across all shifts for employees working in the assigned unit.

  • Adhere to requirements under SQS’s management system and Bacardi’s Operating System (BOS) to ensure continual improvement.

  • Reinforce and strengthen the SQS culture at every opportunity in operations and projects.  

  • Promote accident prevention by eliminating potential hazards and serving as a site first responder.

  • Promote correct SQS behaviors through personal example

  • Take action upon any health, safety and environmental matter brought to their notice, and report to their Manager on any matter which they are unable to rectify

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Work Aids:
  • General office equipment, supplies, personal computer, computer software, Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, SAP, reference materials regarding operations, engineering standards, and safety, health, and environmental issues

Environmental Conditions:
  • Work is performed in temperature-controlled environment and in a production facility where dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise, and vibration exist; and in outdoors environment where seasonal elements and weather elements can exist

Corporate Citizenship/Responsibility:
  • Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety guidelines and regulations

Protective Clothing:
  • All protective equipment required by company policy and/or State law

Skills and Experience


Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science, or related field and two (2) years of operational leadership experience, (Science or Engineering degree highly preferred)

  • Or an Associate’s degree plus four (4) years operational leadership experience in related field. 

Necessary Skills:
  • Minimum of two years distillery or production/plant (chemical/processing) operation experience (beverage industry preferred).

  • Experience on other beverage sector manufacturing field (e.g. processing, bottling, etc.) is highly desired.

  • Must possess and exhibit strong ability to work cohesively with others to accomplish Company objectives

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to function as a team member, leader and business partner with a strong commitment to team concept 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent presentation skills, in front of different type of audiences (internal/external) is preferred

  • Must possess strong influencing skills

  • Excellent decision making and independent judgement skills

  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task

  • Demonstrated analytical/mathematical skills

  • Must possess strong facilitation, conflict management, and negotiating skills

  • Self-motivated and possess ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
     
  • Exhibit flexible approach and willingness to work off shifts and weekends to accomplish goals

  • Proficient personal computer and software skills (SAP, Microsoft Office, etc.)

  • Working knowledge in relevant policies/standards such as Bacardi’s Life Saving Rules, PSM (Process Safety Management), OSHA, HACCP, and ISO.

  • Strong commitment to dependability and timeliness
