About the role

Your Opportunity

The Manager-External Affairs will help develop and implement of an External Affairs strategy for the South-East Asia region for Bacardi.

This role will partner with the operational leadership team and will provide guidance in developing policies, operational procedures and practices that are compliant with local laws and are aligned with Bacardi’s corporate compliance policies and practices.

Your objective is to provide a voice for Bacardi within key industry, government, and regulatory related discussion and with decision-making bodies.

You will work towards influencing policy, and regulatory frameworks to support our commercial priorities and help achieve balanced alcohol policies at the market level.


With our Consumer at the heart, your key focus will be to:
  • The External affairs manager provides guidance to operational leadership in developing policies, operational procedures and practices that are compliant with the relevant laws, regulations and Bacardi’s corporate compliance policies and procedures. To represent the company’s interest in relevant trade & industry associations and help build the reputation of the company.
  • Support in development and implementation of external affairs strategy short-mid-long-term strategy for the South-East Asia region.
  • Monitor, share with the management and help mitigate of kinds of regulatory risks coming at the Company across all markets in the region.
  • On behalf of the Company, provide constructive interaction with groups of influence (government bodies, public organizations, business associations, industry associations, trade unions, media, leaders of public opinion, but not limited to them) in key countries across South-East Asia.
  • Represent the Company's interests in the relevant professional and / or industry associations and express the Company's opinion on key issues that have a wide public resonance and special significance for business within working groups, public events across the South-East Asia Region. (Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines & Indonesia)
  • Ensure internal collaboration within the Company to provide sufficient information when establishing official external positions on key issues. Establish on-going constant cross-functional dialogue and opinion exchange to ensure effective mitigation of key regulatory issues.
  • Support in development, integration, and implementation of projects to support corporate social responsibility and sustainability on behalf of the Company as part of a global and local strategy both within the Company and outside it.
  • Bring new ideas and communication opportunities to the Region and Global External Affairs team to maintain and advance the Company’s reputation. 

Skills and Experience

The Skills & Experience needed to create your legacy
  • Experience driving industry alignment through trade associations & multi-stakeholder coalitions.
  • Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships with key influence groups both inside and outside the company (stakeholder relations).
  • Understanding of political/governmental/ regulatory structures and processes.
  • Work well in a team-oriented environment and analyse decisions with a broad perspective.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • External affairs and /or Commercial experience in Alcohol Beverage industry would be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in English and good writing skills. Proficiency in major local language (Thai, Vietnamese, or Bahasa- ideally) and good communication skills with knowledge of local context
  • Action orientated, delivering results whilst also ensuring the ‘basics’ are always covered.
  • Stakeholder and matrix management and engagement
  • Engages and communicates well with all levels and inspires confidence in their decisions and approach.
  • Ability to learn and fully understand the law and legal regulation governing the alcoholic beverage industries of SEA countries and their implication to the industry”
  • Ability to handle and work with media.

  • Ideally, a relevant degree such as Bachelor's and University Degree in Business, Communications, Political Science, Economics,
  • Law, Public Relations.
