About the role

What does a Lab. Specialist do?

Responsible to execute all required analytical and sensorial controls on raw material, semi, and finished product to ensure the requested level of quality for the mentioned product.

In this role the Laboratory Specialist is responsible to ensure the highest level of analytical performances through the constant evolution of the methods, techniques, and instruments
Continuous knowledge improvement will be the base of this role ensuring the evolution of the laboratory activities keeping these at the state of the art.
Fearless, the Laboratory Specialist, propose to the SQS Manager all method adaptation/ introduction/ elimination with the aim to keep the highest level of analytical/sensorial investigation.
An effective collaboration with the Lab. Senior Technician will be capital for the successful activity of the laboratory and for a mid-long-term view on the instrument’s evolution.
Proposing to the management an appropriate training plan to stay at the state of the art for the
analytical/sensorial knowledge applicable to the quality will be one of the responsibilities of this role as well as the creation of an efficient network of external laboratories/contacts in line with the Global Analytical Strategy indications.

  • Responsible for the execution of all analytical and sensorial controls to ensure the required level of quality for all raw material, packaging, semi, finished products and R&D samples prepared at Meyrin Global Botanicals Center (MGBC) and/or coming from external entities.
  • Responsible to validate/approve the first level of Quality Control on the above-mentioned samples
  • Responsible, when required, to prepare detailed analytical technical reports.
  • Responsible to propose the eventual evolution of the Proficiency Tests to adapt these to the laboratory activity evolution
  • Responsible for the continuous evolution of all analytical techniques/methods through an appropriate and critical evaluation of the laboratory needs vs possible externalization of certain controls.
  • Responsible to create and maintain an efficient network of external laboratories/Institutes to externalize analysis and/or investigation in case of needs.
  • Responsible to continuously follow up the analytical techniques/technologies evolution and propose to the management an appropriate program of investments/dismission for the instruments with a 3-year rolling view.
  • Support and collaborate in the development of apprentices, summer jobs, students that may be part of the Team (knowledge and values).
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Senior Technician to guarantee the required level of calibration/performances for the laboratory instruments using the proficiency tests to evaluate it, with regular reporting of the results to the SQS manager.
  • Propose, with reference to the quality plan, new sensorial working ways/techniques and/or evaluation tools to ensure the highest performances of the Sensorial panel.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Senior Technician for the Sensor Panelist performances check (spiking program) and follow-up together with the eventual re-training in case of failures.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Senior Technician for the proposal, on yearly basis, of an adequate budget to ensure the correct day-to-day laboratory functionality.
  • Propose, on yearly basis, an appropriate training program to the management to ensure is own constant knowledge evolution/improvement.

Skills and Experience

  • Technical background: University degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in food quality and/or analytical chemistry
  • Language: French: Fluent // English : Fluent // Italian and Spanish is an asset
  • Dealing with ambiguity, interpersonal savvy, constant improvement attitudes, decision capabilities
  • Good knowledge of ISO systems applied to quality
  • Flexible, proactive, possibly mobile, with willingness to improve in everyday work.
  • Always show the good example and positive attitude to his colleagues and collaborators, be voluntary, and always help each other within the Team.
  • Spirit of continuous improvement for the optimization of the processes in place and the organization.
  • Spirit of health and safety daily.
