About the role

WHAT DOES AN OPS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER DO?

The Operations Development Manager is a crucial role in the UK Operations Center (“UK OC”) and is responsible for designing the best strategy to implement BOS (Bacardi Operating System) for Manufacturing, Gin Distilling, and Supply Chain and departments, as well as the support functions such as Procurement, EHS, and Quality. The role also acts as the SME for the improvement strategies designed in the areas of Bulk and Whisky Distilleries, in partnership with the Spirit Supply Director and Operations Development Manager, Spirit Supply.

As the Operations Development Manager, you will look to continuously improve the operations, availability, CPC and Engagement. You will lead the UKOC BOS & Lean Manufacturing agenda and implement the plan by identifying needs, coaching/ training key partners, and benchmarking with other operations around Bacardi global network. These operations are complex and require your expertise to be executed in the most efficient / effective way, using Bacardi best practices such as Lean Manufacturing and Zero Based Budgeting. The Operations Development Manager ensures that safety, quality, efficiency, business continuity, sustainability and demand / supply are all delivered to exacting standards and targets. The role has 4 direct reports and leads and represents the BOS UK OC guidelines around Bacardi global network.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and solid experience of operations, Lean Manufacturing programs (TPM, WCM, 6 Sigma, etc) and project management skills. The ability to communicate at different levels of the organization, demonstrate leadership and influence operational teams is essential.

You will be enthusiastic and proactive, actively contributing to the success of the team by carefully planning the needs of the business, while remaining flexible and adaptive, being able to have a multi-site and multi-team approach

Responsibilities

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and lead the implementation of BOS (Bacardi Operating System – Lean Manufacturing standard) masterplan across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Gin Distilling and the support functions such as Procurement, EHS, HR, and Quality.
  • Prepare the UKOC strategy to implement BOS based on the OC Vision & Strategy.
  • Partner with leaders to provide recommendations on BOS strategy and opportunities for their department.
  • Liaise with and provide guidance to Bulk Operations Development manager on BOS implementation standards for Spirit Supply.
  • Coach and train primos at all levels. Follow up with the teams to track and ensure progress.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing best practices by benchmarking internally (other Bacardi sites) and externally. Share and reapply.
  • Provide analytical technical support and solutions to the processes, equipment and people to improve overall productivity, efficiency/reliability and reduce losses.
  • Lead and coordinate losses analysis through adequate techniques (ZBB, losses analysis, VSM, etc) and set up improved reporting tools and standards suitable for continuous performance tracking and analysis.
  • Highlight main areas of opportunities over the Supply and Manufacturing process and quantify cost savings related with support from Finance.
  • Qualify and coach the team to perform root cause analysis through PST method and process observations; Facilitate the implementation of improvement actions with the local teams.
  • Participate in JDSL communication briefings/meetings and help with development issues and other initiatives where appropriate.
  • Coordinate and coach the teams to implement BOS tools, aligned with OC BOS strategy and OC Ops Dev Manager (Losses analysis, VSM, 5S, SMED, BPST, etc).
  • Facilitate or assist the implementation of the training courses and tracking of the expertise build up.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, guidance, Let’s Talk performance management etc. for team of Process Leads

Skills and Experience

THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO CREATE YOUR LEGACY
  • Experience in BOS or Lean Manufacturing implementation and leadership, ideally in Fast Moving Consumer Goods FMCG (5+ years of experience)
  • Degree in Engineering or related field preferred 
  • Functional skills:
  • Ability to balance and prioritise workloads 
  • Ability to work closely with others - within team, cross-functionally, or globally
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and control systems
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office applications and IT systems in general
  • Experience in defining KPI’s, analysis and tracking 
  • Demonstrated self-motivated, personal leadership skills
  • Change Management & Continuous Improvement: Ability and commitment to drive change in the organization
  • Delivering presentations with impact
  • Problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Project management knowledge
  • Financial and budgetary skills are essential
  • Managerial experience - preferred
