About the role

Your Opportunity

Regional liquid development leads - to deliver liquid innovation project for Bacardi AMEA region (India, SEA, China, MENA and Africa). Leading the liquid development in Innovations, Quality enhancements, Value Engineering, and process development. Lead a small team of liquid scientists and trainees to deliver winning innovation on time. Demonstrate futuristic proactive product proposals to business to build the innovation pipeline. Build, coach and develop team. Building functional and leadership capability and managing the budget. Be a point of contact for India and regional technical regulatory network for product  compliance.

About You 

AMEA Liquid Development manager is a part of Bacardi Global Liquid R&D team. He/she leads the new product development for AMEA with analytical, formulation and process engineering experience to support new product initiatives in Bacardi for low and non -alcoholic beverages (RTDs), Rums, Whisky, and other alcoholic beverage products. 

This position covers a broad range of challenges like development of new consumer preferred and winning formulations for different geographies with different consumer preference, pioneering new technology and processing routes, application of analytical and sensory techniques as well as consumer validation.

Responsibilities

With our Consumer at the heart, your key focus will be to:
  • Development of formulations, manufacturing processes, identification, characterization and evaluation of material and products at all stages of the development process.
  • This position serves as an expert in technical skill or area of expertise and is the R&D representative for liquids on crossfunctional teams
  • Deliver on key financial targets (NSV, Gross Margin, Overheads, Profitability, ROI, Value Share)
  • Lead the development of new product formulations, following brief & priorities agreed as per innovation pipeline and timing.
  • Make sure on time delivery of all committed innovation and VE projects.
  • Feed ideas to the innovation pipeline by creating innovative concepts and product ideas.
  • End-to-end technical delivery of the project including process development and commercialization.
  • Early technical scoping, input to Business case, and providing all technical inputs to relevant Gate documents at each stage of the project.
  • Identify options and deliver on committed cost saving through value engineering and reformulation of existing products for quality improvement.
  • Regular interaction with suppliers, flavor houses and external agencies to deliver project within agreed timelines.
  • Work with internal and external partners for identification of trends and creating winning products on those trends.
  • Travel to manufacturing plants and supervise production of new/reformulated products as may be necessary.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a global environment and cross functionally with supply chain, production, marketing, and sales
  • Evaluate new product flavors and aromas via sense of taste and smell.
  • Maintains precise experimental records, control and issues official formulation, test methods, validation protocols and reports.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of documentation for all liquid innovation projects.
  • Partner with technology suppliers, outside research institutes, and universities to deliver new to the world innovation
  • Design experiments and carries out scientific work with an awareness of existing and new technology.
  • Guide and coach team for first time right delivery of projects
  • Conduct shelf-life tests and ensure product safety.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of all ingredients, formulation and label declarations.
  • Keeps abreast of, explores and develops new technologies and shares information with his/her team and Manager
  • Develops strong, collaborative relationships with other departments/groups and fosters an environment of knowledge sharing
  • Seeks advise from colleagues and Management when unexpected results occur or when major changes to project plans are considered

Skills and Experience

The Skills & Experience needed to create your legacy
  • Master’s degree in food technology, Chemical engineering, Alcohol Technology or related science
  • Good understanding of Food and beverage regulations (FSSAI, Codex ) is essential
  • 12-15 years of relevant experience in new product development at least 5 years of experience in a beverages/foods/alcohol product development.
  • Proven team management skills at a leadership role.
  • Hands on knowledge of NPD –Stage gate process
  • A practical approach with significant experience of using experimental design, measurement, and interpretation in the development of new products.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work well with others, and ability to plan and execute work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Scientific and technical report preparation
  • Keen eye on evolving consumer trends and needs.
  • Fluent English
  • Team player
  • Mobility – willing to travel 20%-30% of time.
  • Knowledge and experience the Spirit business (nice to have)
  • Proficient working knowledge in applying general good laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrating necessary commitments and knowledge towards safety requirements.
  • Possess good knowledge of natural sciences and food science.
  • Must be self-motivated, dependable and have ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent organizational and follow up skills
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Preferably have working and/or hands-on knowledge and experience in some or all of the following techniques: HPLC, MS, GC, Spectrophotometer, Sensory
