About the role
Responsibilities
- Independently lead packaging development projects of all levels from development through to qualification, and those such as complex cross category, new trademarks or new technology projects.
- Expert in development of all major packaging components with robust knowledge of the manufacturing process, risks, specifications and quality for glass, labels, closures, cans, shippers, gift boxes, specialty closures and PET.
- Work closely with the Project managers, the rest of the Packaging Development Team in Glasgow and in the other Operation Center’s to drive awareness / delivery of new ideas, technical scouting and knowledge sharing.
- Efficiently benefit from the feedback and coaching of the packaging development experts
- Support cross category pack dev teams to create robust technical risk assessments and mitigation plans.
- Owner of selected component best practices and work on continuous improvement of these.
- Work cross category improving technical qualification approaches and test methods.
- Support Value Creation by identifying new technical approaches.
- Participate in the weekly review with manufacturing and in the regular different team meetings as assigned.
- Participate in Quarterly Supplier Business Reviews, and support team with different component ownership.
- To lead DFMEA (risk assessment) review with suppliers and cross functional operation center teams to identify and mitigate risks, and to ensure all DFE (Design for Excellence) processes are complied to. Create and execute robust plans and high-quality trial reports.
- Elevate any technical or project risks to direct line manager, and work with the multifunctional team to define mitigation plan.
- Create and route for approval robust packaging specifications meeting all criteria: Brand equity, Manufacturing constraints, COGS and LT, Legal and Quality.
- Define appropriate test methods for qualification, such as ship test protocols, and glass mold qualifications.
- Work with suppliers, ensuring they manufacture components to agreed specifications. Responsible for leading all trials and testing on designated projects and ensuring key stakeholder approval. Challenge suppliers to drive results and deliver proper components qualification.
- Contribute to grow technical knowledge, and innovation on packaging and share knowledge within the team. In addition, be ahead of the curve and have a deep understanding of sustainable packaging types, best practices.
- Bring innovation to the team via supplier scouting and visits.
- Drive Demand Creation projects such as E-commerce packs etc.
- Own and communicate packaging critical path schedule for designated projects.
- Create innovation sessions with marketing, customers and suppliers and Value Creation Sessions with plant teams and suppliers
Skills and Experience
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging or related field such as mechanical engineering, material science, etc.
- Minimum five years of experience in packaging development or role in Operations linked to Packaging
- Functional skills:
- Effective team player profile, good coach and mentor, and good mentee with the packaging experts
- High level of understanding of packaging component development, molding, packing line and supply chain qualification
- Ability by working closely with design agencies and marketing to enable robust execution, at best value.
- Ability to quickly understand Packaging/Packaging materials/Packing systems to be able to create and manage fit for use specifications
- Capability to work in a seamless team, cross functionally and cross regions.
- Ability to manage and influence packaging component suppliers at each phase of the project.
- Understand technical drivers of the component cost and work closely with procurement ensuring best value.
- Expert in risk assessment for packaging components and overall pack life cycle. Focus to deliver sustainability improvements at the best value
- Strong project management skills
- Capability to work in a seamless team, cross-functionally and across regions
- Overall good collaborator and excellent communicator

- Willingness to travel up to 20% of time.
