About the role

This role provides analytical support and financial reporting for South East Asia and any other responsible market. 

This individual is expected to provide financial analysis that will assist in understanding key performance drivers.  They must ensure accuracy of pertinent financial information and provide timely, accurate and relevant analysis regarding business performance. This Financial Analyst will also be responsible for the month end closing, annual planning processes (budgets and Latest Earnings updates) and strategic plan.

This role will partner with commercial teams, customer marketing teams, regional teams in order to drive business growth and help ensure informed and timely decisions, which are critical in the dynamic South East Asia (SEA) working environment. In addition to providing first class business partnering, the role will also involve supporting key projects or initiatives across both Commercial and Finance agendas. 

It requires someone with solid financial and analytical capabilities, but just as importantly, someone who’s a pro-active worker, with strong communication and collaboration skills. Someone who is interested to work closely with commercial/customer marketing colleagues to unpick what’s driving performance and to help us drive the business forwards.


Performance Measurement and Planning 
  • To manage the month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting process, with the following specific responsibilities
  • Responsible for P&L landing estimates, built through having a strong understanding of performance trends, drivers and variance
  • Responsible for quality and timely preparation of financial performance reports 
  • Track and support delivery of KPI’s during financial year
  • Manage the monthly rolling forecast model and process – coordinate with various functions (commercial, operations, HR) to compile forecast P&L
  • Monitor monthly closure forecasts on a weekly basis (Open order based forecast), raise with CSR, market finance and commercial teams
  • Proactively drive cost efficiency, identify risks and opportunities against target
  • Ensuring accrued rebate, A&P and expense has been processed to reflect with immaterial misstatements
  • Analyse the actual results on a monthly basis, highlighting and obtaining explanations for unusual entries and for variances from agreed plans/landing forecast
  • Preparation and submission of the regional Budget and Latest Estimate (LE) forecasts, by building the necessary templates, providing guidance and challenge to the team, and communicating final numbers
  • Work seamlessly with the market/regional Finance team, ensuring alignment on approach and full transparency
  • Continuous identification of opportunities to improve processes
Sales Decision Support 
  • To act as a business partner to Regional Director, Commercial and Customer Marketing with the following specific responsibilities:
  • Develop a detailed understanding of value chain and distributor account profitability 
  • Act as a first point of contact to the responsible market for all financial queries. Queries will include data accuracy and performance tracking, as well as analysis to help drive future performance
  • Support the Commercial team in identifying opportunities to take price and drive margin improvement 
  • Conduct promotion (price and A&P), outlet spending decision support through pre and post evaluation of promotional activity using ROI tools to drive spend effectiveness and provide recommendation
  • Being a gateway to ensure all pricing and promotion are implemented within guideline. Any exception would need to get approval
  • Ensuring integrity of price list in the system by reviewing the completeness and correctness
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve decision support effectiveness
  • Ensure the rebate, contract outlet accrual are closely monitored, recorded, documented and reconcile on a monthly basis 
  • Forecast support (S&OP)
  • Support of Distributor Depletion/Stock Trackers Update and analysis (monthly basis) 
Marketing Decision Support
  • Prepare and distribute monthly A&P spending reports 
  • Monitor on a monthly basis actual A&P spend versus Budget and IAP, highlighting variances and discrepancies to Regional director/ Commercial and Customer marketing and ensuring robust accounting principles are applied
  • Complete tracking and performance analysis versus targets of key Brand Market Combinations (BMC), highlighting variances and discrepancies to Regional Director/ Finance Manager on major variances
  • Conduct analysis to assess effectiveness of marketing spend through pre and post evaluation using ROI too to help allocate resource appropriately
  • Support the marketing of IAP and WBS code set up for budgeting and actual spending.
Structure Cost Decision Support 
  • To support financial and operational planning, budgeting, forecasting and analytics for structure costs
  • Monthly reporting and monitoring of structure costs and T&E by persons against Budget and LE, challenging markets where overspends occur
  • Embed culture of cost control within regional teams
  • Ensure cross charges are monitored on a monthly basis
  • Be a super user of SAP (all modules) and support team with any inquiries 
  • Maintain a system of internal controls throughout the region to ensure financial information is accurate, timely and robust
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of financials throughout systems
  • Carry out other ad-hoc projects as required such as New Business Development, Innovation Project, New Route To Market set up, etc.

Skills and Experience

Work experience requirements 
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in finance/accounting/analysis. Experience in leading consumer goods or retail company is a plus 
  • Educational requirements: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and/or Accounting or equivalent.  MBA or equivalent designation preferred
  • Language skills: Fluent in spoken and written English

Other skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: able to interact effectively with more senior colleagues (e.g. Sales Managers) and peers, both within Finance and in other functions (sales/marketing/etc)
  • Financial Analysis: Advanced Excel skills, ability to build advanced Excel models, explain variances to estimates, identify business risks and opportunities, and make appropriate recommendations
  • Project Management: Ability to manage projects/tasks independently to ensure successful delivery (on time and within budget) while identifying potential issues/risks. Able to prioritize effectively and manage workload against tight deadlines
  • Strong commercial acumen: Strong understanding of the underlying drivers of business performance
  • Accuracy: High level of diligence and attention to detail
  • Control Environment: Understanding of internal controls, standards, and processes to ensure accuracy and consistency in data used for decision-making, internal/external reporting and communications
  • Accounting Principles: Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with major ERP platforms (preferably SAP), reporting system (Cognos TM1 is a plus) and dashboard system (Power BI is a plus)
  • Advanced expertise in the MS Office Suite (particularly MS Excel), MS SharePoint and MS PowerPoint
