About the role

As a key leader in our UK Operations Centre Supply Chain team, your role will be:
  • To continuously improve the performance of key supply chain processes at the lowest possible cost in support of the primary customer service objective
  • To manage all aspects of logistics activities, ensuring excellent levels of service are provided to customers around the world, effectively reviewing and refining business processes to enhance the service level.
  • Oversees the day to day relationships with our 3PL warehousing and logistics suppliers and leads tendering and contract agreements in this area
  • The role exists in order to manage the day-to-day traffic activities of the company. This involves ensuring materials from suppliers and finished goods are receipted in a timely manner and shipped effectively to meet customer needs.
  • To lead technical projects like the integration of new business systems and SAP upgrades for the logistics function
  • This role requires a mix of technical/data understanding and commercial awareness as well as the ability to build excellent working relationships within the team and with global teams. 
  • The success of this role will be based largely on feedback from the business - whether this person is seen to be visible, helpful, value adding, problem solving and professional. 
  • This person also needs to be closely linked with the development and analytical area of the team to ensure that we can deliver what we promise and to manage expectations in general.
  • The role will also plays a key part in continuous improvement and functional development by taking the lead or support in critical logistics projects. 

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Contributing, and in some cases driving, attainment of key KPI’s – OFR, Warehouse Capacity, obsolescence
  • Lead a culture of continuous improvement within the warehousing and logistics team.
  • Support other areas of the company with regard to activities that involve the Logistics Supply Base (Customer Services, Dispatch, Finance & Materials Teams)
  • Knowledge of HM Revenue & Customs import and export procedures, basic understanding of accountancy techniques and costing, knowledge of six sigma methodologies, understanding of standard transport terms and conditions.
  • Manage the relationships with 3PL and warehousing operations
  • Lead tendering and contract agreement initiatives with logistics and warehousing providers
  • Where necessary support the Senior Supply Chain Manager with current issues and daily set tasks
  • Identify new opportunities within the existing supply chain and, through risk management, provide solutions to any problems/issues
  • Plan and deliver cost reductions to generate a favorable financial position in line with team objectives. Assist with Business / Service Levels reviews
  • Co-ordinate the selection and introduction of new suppliers in line with current procedures
  • Strategic management and development of logistics base
  • Elimination and management of risks within the supply chain
  • Cost management and reporting
  • Providing commercial support to other departments and where necessary coordinating supplier involvement
  • The jobholder has to interact with staff at all levels within the company and with external suppliers/service providers. Communication, customer service and negotiation skills are the key parameters of the role.
  • Be the lead or key support on priority SC projects such as:
  • Developing test scenarios
  • Managing UAT
  • Weekly/monthly progress reporting to senior management
  • Ensuring that timelines are met or advising on and escalating issues
  • Managing project sources and personnel

  • Great relationships with logistics providers is essential as is the ability to motivate and lead a team, particularly in peak times when work load and challenges can be high.
